A record of 1-11 might not sound so good to you, but to me 1-11 sounds AMAZING! We were down to our final game of the night. Our team was 0-11. We were wondering what we were doing there. You see we played up. We are in an adult volleyball league with teams that are, well, more talented than us. They can jump higher, run faster, and DEFINITELY hit harder.
We could have played in a less talented league and won more games. This league to me is not about the win though. I like playing up for one reason — the challenge. We could have stayed stagnant and just played a bunch of teams we know we could beat, but what is the accomplishment in that? Where is the challenge when you do something you already know you can do?
So there we were on our way to what seemed to be our 12th loss … heads down and behind by multiple points. Then something happened. We rallied, and we overcame to claim our first victory. There was no flash. There was no drama. We just kept playing. We never gave up.
In our lives as we walk towards our purpose, we run into failure, we run into setbacks. Sometimes we run into 11 setbacks in a row. The game though … goes on. Whether you stand or fall the game goes on. You can choose to lie down and cry about life not being fair, that life is too hard, or you can choose stand up dust yourself off look at the schedule and say bring on the next opponent.
Accepting failure and moving on with new wisdom, to not make the same mistakes, is what is called “failing forward.” If you keep playing and trust what God is telling you eventually you will WIN, even when you are expected to lose. I want to challenge you to stand up and step out into the dangerous unknown that is your potential and make it your reality.

These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold–though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
